City recognition coincides with Fred City Soccer Club’s announcement of USL League Two and USL W League membership

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The City of Fredericksburg has proclaimed September 23, 2026, “Fred City Soccer Club Day,” recognizing the Club and its commitment to developing players, strengthening the community and bringing high-level pre-professional soccer to the Fredericksburg region.
The proclamation was presented to Fred City Soccer Club during the City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 22, ahead of the Club’s September 23 announcement of its membership in USL League Two and the USL W League. The announcement will establish a new pathway for both men’s and women’s players to compete at the pre-professional level in Fredericksburg.
“We are incredibly grateful to the City of Fredericksburg for this recognition and for welcoming Fred City so enthusiastically,” said Gilberto Baez, Fred City SC Co-Owner. “This Club was created to represent Fredericksburg, to create opportunities for talented players to reach their fullest potential and to give our community a team it can truly call its own. To have the City recognize September 23 as Fred City Soccer Club Day makes an already important day in our Club’s history even more special.”
Fred City Soccer Club was founded in 2026 with a vision of developing and inspiring players to reach their fullest potential while fostering pride throughout the community and creating an enduring environment of opportunity, belonging and inclusion.
Beginning in 2027, Fred City will field both men’s and women’s pre-professional teams, giving players from Fredericksburg and beyond an opportunity to continue their development and compete at a high level while representing the region.
The Club also intends to make soccer a catalyst for community connection. Through matches, community events, youth engagement, partnerships and volunteer opportunities, Fred City aims to create experiences that bring together supporters of all ages and backgrounds around the world’s most popular game.
Fred City’s arrival also creates an opportunity to contribute to Fredericksburg’s growing sports tourism economy. Home matches and Club events will welcome players, families and supporters from throughout the region and beyond, bringing new visitors to Fredericksburg while showcasing Fredericksburg to a broader audience.
